Masasabing tunay na napakayaman ng Wikang Filipino kumpara sa ibang wika. May sari-sarili mang diyalekto ang mga rehiyon sa bawat pulo ng Pilipinas, nananatili pa rin ang pagkakaisa ng mga mamamayan at patunay na ang mapabilang sa lahing ito ay kapuri-puring tunay!

Dugong Pinoy at ipinagmamalaki ang kinamulatang salita mula sa lalawigang sinilangan. Marahil, sa iba ito’y katawa-tawang pakinggan ngunit ito’y tatak na ng mga Batanggueño saan mang dako ng mundo. Bahagi ito ng ating kultura, ng pagkakakilanlan sa ating bansa…

1.ambaan- tila lalaban- Aambaan ng drayber ang pulis na sumita sa kanya.

2.agipo- baga- Pinatay niya ang agipo sa siga bago siya natulog.

3. agwantahin - tiisin- Agwantahin kung anuman ang mayroon at sa awa ng Diyos ay makararaos din.

4. alwan- madali- Ang alwan ng aming pagsusulit.

5. ampiyas -anggi- Dahil sa malakas na ampiyas, basang-basa ang kurtina ng bintana.

6. amusin- marungis- Ang amusing bata ay pagala-gala sa kalye.

7. andirain-biruin- Huwag mong andirain ang aso at baka ka kagatin.

8. apanas- langgam sa asukal (maliliit)- Lasang apanas ang tinimpla mong kape.

9. apuyan- posporo- Hindi dapat pinaglalaruan ng mga bata ang apuyan.

10. atungal- pag-iyak- Ang atungal ng bata ay abot sa kapitbahay.

1. bagol- barya- Unahan sa pagdampot ng mga inihagis na bagol ang mga tao.

2. bahaw- kaning lamig- Napakaraming bahaw kaya hindi na siya nagsaing.

3. bakid- lagayan ng damong pakain para sa baka- Isabit mo ang bakid pagkatapos gamitin.

4. baktot- dala-dala- Bawasan mo ang iyong mga baktot nang hindi ka mahirapan.

5. balisbisan-kung saan nakatapat ang alulod- Napakalaking drum ang inilagay sa may balisbisan.

6. bangas- nasaktan, nasugatan- Bangas na bangas ang kanyang mukha sa pagkakasemplang ng kanyang motorsiklo.

7. bang-aw- asong-ulol- Bahag ang buntot at tumutulo ang laway ng isang bang-aw.

8. barikan- inuman- Hindi nila nakumbinsi ang binata na sumama sa isang barikan.

9. bayan-bayan- hawakan sa pagbaba at pag-akyat ng hagdan- Kumapit ka sa bayan-bayan at baka ka mahulog.

10. bilot- tuta- Kahit bilot pa lang ay may taglay na “rabies”.

11. bug-al-bug-al- buo-buo- Bug-al-bug-al ang dugong lumalabas sa bibig ng pasyente.

12. bugalwak- todong lakas- Bugalwak na ang tubig sa gripo nang matanggal ang pihitan nito.

13. bulok- hindi matalino- Lagi siyang bagsak sa pagsusulit kaya’t siya ang lumalabas na bulok sa klase.

13.buyangyang- lantad na lantad- Nakabuyangyang ang kanyang mga panindang damit.

1. dagukan- suntukan- Ang biruan ng magkaibigan ay nauwi sa dagukan.

2. diga- matamis na salita sa isang nililigawan- Ang kanyang diga ay hindi umubra sa babaeng nililigawan.

A to Z of HUMAN BEHAVIOR in ORGANIZATIONS:

Application of knowledge about how people- as individuals and as groups act within the organizations.

Brainstorming. Group structure that encourages creative thinking by deferring judgement on ideas generated.

Culture. It gives people stability and security because they depend on it. They can understand what is happening in the community and know how to respond.

Desire for Involvement. People wish to feel good about themselves. They believe that they have the strong capabilities to get involve in a certain task and make a meaningful contributions.

Employees see their work worlds differently for a variety of reasons.

Feedback. Information from the job itself, management or other employees.

Genetic Monitoring.Identifying harmful substance in the workplace, examining their effects on the employees and using the information for corrective action.

Home Life is not totally separable from work life.

Individual differences factors include individualism/collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity and feminity.

Job-involved employees are likely to believe in the work ethic, to exhibit high growth needs, and to enjoy participation in decision-making.

Key elements in organizational behavior are people, structure, technology and the environment.

Law of Effect. Tendency of a person to repeat behavior that is accompanied by favorable consequences and not to repeat behavior accompanied by unfavorable consequences.

Motivation is very essential in the operation of an organization. People should be properly motivated for them to give their best.

Nature of People. With regard to people, there are basic concepts: desire for involvement, motivated behavior, a whole person, value of a person ( ethical treatment).

Organizational Culture. The set of assumptions, beliefs,values, and norms that is shared among its members. This gives an identity to employees- a defining vision of what the organization represents.

Performance Feedback. It helps them know what to do and how they are meeting their own goals.

Quality of Work Life. The basic purpose is to develop jobs and working conditions that are excellent for people as well as for the economic health of the organization.

Rate. Many types of pay are required for a complete reward system. Job analysis and wage surveys rate jobs, performance appraisal and incentives rate employees in their performance, profit sharing rates organization in terms of its general economic performance and rewards employees as partners in it.

Social Learning Theory of Albert Bandura. Role models are important so that employees can gain information, act and imitate what they are doing. It reminds managers that employees do not always act mechanically to their environment; instead, workers carefully observe other people, symbols and cues around them.

Technology. It provides the resources with which people work and affect the tasks that they perform.

Understanding. Two points stand out in the complex task of understanding the interaction among people in a social system. First, the behavior of any member can have an impact directly or indirectly on the behavior of any other. A second important point revolves around a system’s boundaries- any social system engages in exchange with its environment, receiving input and providing output.

Value of a Person.Persons deserve to be treated differently from the other factors of production because they are of higher order in the universe.

Whole Person. Although some organizations may wish they could employ only a person’s skill or brain, they actually employ a whole person rather than certain characteristics.

X Theory X. A traditional set of assumptions about people. It assumes that most people dislike work and will try to avoid it if they can.

Y Theory Y. Implies a more human and supportive approach in managing people. It assumes that people are not inherently lazy. Any appearance they have of being that way is the result of their experiences with organizations, and if the management will provide the proper environment to release their potential, work will become as natural to them as play and rest.

Z Theory Z. An integrative model of organization behavior, It provides a useful example of the way in which behavioral prescriptions for management must be adapted to fit the organizations’ cultural environment.

Everest Tour Plane Crash Kills 19

An airplane taking tourists on a morning sightseeing trip around Mount Everest crashed into a hillside near the Nepalese capital Kathmandu on Sunday, September 25, 2011 killing all 19 people on board.

The Buddha Air Beechcraft plane, carrying 10 Indians, two Americans, one Japanese citizen and three local passengers, came down in heavy rain and fog at Godavari, around 10 kilometres (six miles) from Kathmandu.

The three Nepalese crew also died in the accident as the plane smashed into wooded slopes, leaving the fuselage broken into several pieces…

This shocking news reminded me of the article I wrote almost five years ago. But, the problem was I couldn’t remember where I inserted it or where I saved it. Maybe, it was already deleted. Staying home while Pedring was battering many areas, I tried to find it by fixing and arranging my old files. Presto! I found the draft. I read it and added some of the latest information about the article.

MT. EVEREST

It is considered to be the highest mountain peak , with a peak of 8, 848 metres (29,029 feet) above sea level. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas on the Nepal side of Nepal-China (Tibet) border. It is named after Sir George Everest, a British surveyor-general of India which was known as peak 15. It’s Nepalese name is Sagamantha- “Goddess of the Sky”.

The challenge to reach the summit has attracted many people. Many have failed. Some have been forced to give up. Others have fallen to their deaths or perished in severe blizzards. Others became successful in the attainment of their dreams. More than 6oo were able to reached Mt. Everest.

All races all over the world are aspiring to reach its summit- to prove their heroism and true greatness.

Some foreigners who reached the “Top of the World”:

1. Sir Edmund Hillary- He made the first ascent on May 1953, with Tenzing Norgay of Sherpa. He led the way with his guide and climbing companion. but suddenly, a snow ledge gave way, and Hillary fell. Tenzing slammed his pickfax into the face of the ice-covered mountain , grabbed the life rope, dug in his heels and held on. The falling man slowly came to a top on the sheer face of the cliff. He was saved by a thin rope and a brave friend.

2.Junko Tabei- A 70-year old Japanese and the first woman to ascent Mt. Everest on May 16, 1975.

3. Reinhold Messner- of Italy and Peter Habeler of Austria made a record when they reached the summit without the help of oxygen.

4. Mark Inglis- the first double amputee from New Zealand to scale the world’s highest mountain. He was condemned by Sir Hillary for not saving the life of David Sharp, a British climber who died in a snow cave.

5. Tom Whittaker- adventurer, the first person with the disability to reach the summit of Mt. Everest was awarded Most Excellent Member of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.

6. Peter- son of Hillary reached the summit in 1990.

First Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition:

Year 2006- A group of formidable climbers led by DOTC Undersecretary Art Valdez gathered a singular quest to put the Philippines on the map of international mountaineering by climbing the peak of the world’s highest mountain.

The group underwent rigorous trainings- climbing Mt. Cook in New Zealand and Mt. Muztagh-Ata in China- Pakistan one of the world’s technically difficult mountains. Heracleo “Leo” Oracion of Lucban, Quezon and Erwin “Pastor” Emata of Davao was unanimously chosen by the members of First Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition (FPMEE) to go on an exploratory climb to Mt. Everest.

On the other hand, Romy Garduce, one of the country’s best climbers decided to make his own pace sticking to his schedule. Based on some news, GMA 7 backed up Gardoce while Oracion and Emata by ABS-CBN. Both of the two channels deployed crews who provided blow by blow accounts. The two channels denied that there was a network race to the top of Mt. Everest.

Year 2007-three Filipina who were all members of the Philippine Coastguard and “Kaya ng Pinay” Everest team conquered Mt. Everest. The three Pinays were: Noelle Wenceslao, Carina Dayondon, and Janet Belarmino. They made history because they were the first ASEAN women to reach the summit of Mt. Everest.

GOING BACK TO SIR EDMUND HILLARY…

Sir Edmund Hillary, the unassuming beekeeper who conquered Mt. Everest to win renown as one of the 20th century’s greatest adventurers died of heart attack on January 11, 2008. One of the television newsman said that much of Hillary’s status as a hero in Nepal was not about what he did when he stood on top of the world but what he did when he came down. He spent the next five decades helping to build schools, hospitals and bridges for the Sherpa community.

REFLECTION:

Comparing and contrasting Hillary’s moment in the mountain and his service to the valley brought to mind Jesus’ experience in the Mt. of Transfiguration.

MOUNTAINS

In the Old Testament, mountains were God’s favorite place for meetings with HIS prophets and speaking to HIS people. On the mountain, there was a solitude, silence, wonderment, seeing God’s world all around us, at our own feet. (Luke 9:28-36) It was a pinnacle of blessing when our Lord’s appearance became radiant and the Father said, “This is my beloved SON, Hear HIM.” Jesus didn’t stay up on the mountains, instead He went down to the crowd, and He cured the sick and fulfilled His mission. He even died on the cross for our sins.

Jesus told His disciples, “He who is least among you will be great.”

Our Lord’s life shows us the true greatness is found in humbly serving God and others. Let us not fail to recognize Him in people, who are made to His image, redeemed by His son, and destined for HIS kingdom in heaven.

BUILDING A BETTER WORKPLACE (1)

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS THAT THERE IS A FLEXIBLE WORKPLACE?

1. Employees are engaging in their jobs and committed to help their companions to succeed. Feeling jealous and insecure are out of their minds.

2. Employees show they are satisfied with their jobs by their attitudes and behavior :

a. Their works are always done right and no one else has to spend worrying about it.

b. They are flexible and they are team players.

c. They can be trusted in a sense that they don’t spread gossips and at the same time they tell the truth even it will land them in hot water.

d. They are participative- attend regular meetings. celebrations, etc.

e. They constantly seek ways on how to improve their skills and abilities by attending seminars, workshops and even pursuing further education.

CONSIDERABLE FACTORS INFLUENCING EMPLOYEES’ PERFORMANCE :

1. Creativity- Healthy human beings find ways, new thinking. Allow them to express what’s in their minds.

2. Communication- it is a vehicle that allow people work together. Information must be properly disseminated and tasks must also be properly coordinated. Listen and hear when they speak the truth. Be open to criticisms and come together with human understanding for it leads to powerful creativity.

3. Respectful community- People are treated fairly. Remember that an UNHEALTHY workplace makes people sick, PHYSICALLY and EMOTIONALLY.

4. Vision- dreaming a better place, better ways to do good things ( needs discernment)

* Words to ponder about vision:

- Dreams are goal with things (leadership).

- Think like a beginner.

- Take risks, not chances.

- Plan on changing your plans. (expect the unexpected)

- Don’t look where you don’t want to go.

5. Partnership- allowing personality to work. Involvement in some decision-making could help in establishing rapport between the superiors and subordinates. The latter would feel they really “belong” and part of the team.

6. Power/ Force- There is a big difference between power and force. Employees know that their superiors have certain level of “power”, however this does not mean their superiors should force the ideas on them. Good leaders lead with strength from inside; they do not gain it from walking on people. True strength is admired as leadership skill.

7. Flexibility- Being approachable and accessible to people is very important because workers believe that there’s someone behind them and would get along with in any instances. Remember that gesture of kindness (everyone) creates a happy and cool environment.

Take note:

Intrigues in the workplace is usually a destruction. Rumor-mongering creates bad vibrations. Whatever has been said can’t be taken back. There are five things to observe with care: of whom to speak, to whom you speak, and how,when and where. Following these, there would be harmonious relationship and mutual trust.

Want to change the culture? It’s not an easy task and could not be done overnight. Strong leadership and management consistency throughout the organization are required to make this happen. It is important that management be truly committed to do what must be done for the long haul, and not just following the week’s or month’s program.

I’M A WARRIOR, FOREVER!

26th of May- I visited my Alma Mater, UNIVERSITY of the EAST , C.M. Recto,Manila. Physically, there’s a lot of changes but attitudes of personnel, still the same- so warm and approachable!

I explored the place… different offices and departments. It’s really nice to be there once again. Recalling those times during my first week on my first year when I got lost because instead of going to Recto gate, I went to Lepanto Gate. I rode a jeepney not knowing where it would stop.I would not forget those moments when I was spending long hours at UE Library located at LMB Bldg. Why? I was so engrossed reading books of Dr. Jose Rizal. It’s my professor’s (History 324) convincing power. Those times when we need to hold our PE Class at UERM, Aurora QC. The stage where we hold SAYAWIT. The UE Theater where our students( in our trainings) had their best performance.( Ngayon at Kailanman and Waray-Waray). The benches where we spent our spare hours eating hot corniks. Now, it’s entirely different.Students are seriously sitting with their laptops as companions. New enrollees are provided with benches and a TV as a way of entertainment not to feel bored while waiting.

What a beautiful sight! There was a playground located at College of Education and the garden in front of College of Arts and Science Bldg. I asked permission from the two accommodating guards if I could take photos. Both agreed and even talked about the new garden. Before leaving the place, I went to the chapel and thanked God. I asked HIM to forgive me for the wrong things I did and continue giving me strength as I face new challenges.

All I can say is thank you dear ALMA MATER and I’m so proud of you! I promised—- I’ll keep coming back!

Even how smooth the sailing is, we couldn’t say everything would gonna be alright. It stroke me unknowingly. I didn’t imagine this. Just like St. Therese, I was throne like a ball with no one to catch me. My first reaction? self- pity. If I was an accused, I was not given the chance to defend myself. I sat down and reflect. Yes, I might have faults and shortcomings. I considered my work as a creative activity. “Hindi matutumbasan ng kabutihan ang minsang pagkakamali. “I couldn’t do anything about it but to welcome pain and feel the sufferings. I tried to view things in a different perspective. I raised everything to HIM.

6th of May - I went to Quiapo Church and there I opened myself, aired my sentiments. Going back home, I felt at peace with myself. Before I sleep, I browsed the book, “Pagtawid sa Bunga ng Pag-asa” (Crossing the Threshold of Hope) by Pope John Paul II given to me by Emily, one of my closest friends. The content of one of the chapters was instilled in my mind. It says: “Ngunit ano ang katotohanan? (Jn8:38) At dito nagwakas ang paglilitis, ang nakalulungkot na paghatol ng tao sa harap ng hukuman ng Kanyang sariling kasaysayan, at kung saan ang hatol na ibinigay ay taliwas sa katotohanan.Sinabi ni Pilato: “Wala akong matagpuang kasalanan sa kanya”(Jn 18:38) at pagkaraa’y iniutos niya, “Kunin at ipako siya sa krus!” (Jn 19:6). Sa pamamagitan nito’y naghugas siya ng kamay sa kaso at ibinalik ang pananagutan sa madlang marahas. Samakatuwid, ang paghatol sa Diyos ng tao ay hindi batay sa KATOTOHANAN, kundi sa KAPALALUAN, at sa PATAKSIL na SABWATAN. Hindi ba ito ang katotohanan sa kasaysayan ng isang katauhan; ang katotohanan tungkol sa ating siglo? Ang pangyayaring ito’y nauulit sa…”
I realized many things.I should emerge from this and bear the pains just like HIM. Pain is the passage in the attainment of life to its fullness.
Now, I must accept the changes. Let go of of the past and opens a new door, a new beginning.

CAINTA CATHOLIC COLLEGE EMPLOYEES’ CHRISTMAS PARTY ‘09

My ELEVENTH YEAR of sharing my moments with YOU…

Date: December 18, 2009 Time: 1:00 pm-5:00 pm Venue: CCC Auditorium

As usual, the program started with the registration of all the employees which must be done for the food tabs and the raffle draws. Upon entering the newly- renovated auditorium, happy and smiling faces as well as the sighs( oooh, aaah) were indications of surprise and admiration.

The new auditorium could be compared to a first class theater, ‘though still lacking in some gadgets, equipment, and interiors. There were technical booth, dressing room, and rest room accessible to the users. The image of the Blessed Virgin Mary was placed on the left side of the stage.

While everyone was waiting for the program to start, CCC cooperative , (through Mrs. Charry Cruz and Mrs. Bernados) gave free Jubilee T-shirts to all cooperative members. Thank you!

Fr. Jose Blaise Maria E. Garcia presided the Bible Enthronement which followed by the blessing of the Virgin Mary and community singing of “Salve Regina” as a sign of praise and devotion.

All the departments prepared prayers led by Mrs. Mary Jane Chicote, Grade School Christian Living Coordinator.

“Let us all be joyful in celebrating the season,”expressed warmheartedly by Mr. Reldino Aquino, the chairman of the Golden Jubilee Celebration. He also extended his sincerest thanks to Rev. Msgr. Arnel Lagarejos for allowing CCC to use the new auditorium. At the same time, he congratulated two members of the community, Fr. Blaise on his 15th Sacerdotal Anniversary and Atty Carmencita P.L. Logan for the noble, universal award, “Ecclesia et Pontifice” bestowed by Pope Benedict XVI.

It’s also a time of giving tribute to Mrs. Lolita Padi, who served CCC for 25 years. One of her friends in the industry, Mrs. Sergia Rivera took time to expressed her appreciation to Mrs. Padi, being her mentor and a critic at the same time.In behalf of CCC community, Msgr. Arnel delivered expression of thanks and also appreciation for her long length of service and her contributions to the institution. On the other hand, Mrs. Padi thanked everyone especially Msgr. Arnel for this time of receiving accolade. She also expressed her appreciation to Msgr. for being a hard working leader and had done a lot of changes in CCC. For her final words, ” A new chapter in my life is waiting. I may probably stay with my daughter abroad and would take care of my grandchild.” She received a plaque of appreciation and a token from CCC.

In his opening remarks, Rev, Msgr. Arnel Lagarejos touched on the glimpse of the sad events over the past few months. He shared his sentiments by saying he questioned the Lord about the difficulties which could hinder the celebration of the Golden Jubilee. But after self- introspection, he realized that it happened for some reasons. All were affected and not only CCC community. It’s a reminder for everyone to be faithful to the communion and mission. “We should not be helpless but instead, be strong enough to face whatever trials that would come along the way. GOD is always with us. In any difficulty that we would experience, HE will always there to comfort us.” He continued, “The real essence of the celebration is giving and sharing. Show your love and concern to one another. Let us move on and continue celebrating this long-awaited anniversary of our institution.”

“Never a weakness that He can’t fill. Never a sickness that He can’t heal. Never a sorrow that He doesn’t share. Moment by moment- WE are under JESUS care!”

Msgr. Arnel discussed briefly the history behind the establishment of this auditorium. It was under Msgr. Sta. Ana’s administration when the Diocese of Antipolo initiated the construction of this building with the idea that it would be used as a formation center. According to Msgr. Arnel, he had done a mass inside this auditorium before. During the time of Msgr. Mariano Balbago, there was a tremendous increase in enrolment and some parts of the auditorium were used as classrooms to in- house some of the enrollees. He ended his message by saying, “This auditorium would be the landmark of our Golden Jubilee Year Celebration. The blessing of this structure would be on February 16, 2010.’” Then, he expressed his gratitude to everybody for gracing the occasion and extended also his greeting for this special season and the coming year.

There were raffle draws in- between presentations, the dance interpretation (representatives of different offices) and the tableau about “The Nativity”, choreographed and trained by Mr. Jerome Samson of the College Department. CCC employees’ singing sensations - Sir Dino, Andy, Ferdie, Rizza, Toks, RV, Zhel, Henry, Chu and Msgr. Arnel (who sang “Beautiful in my Eyes”, nice rendition!) shared their talents that enlightened the evening. Ms. Neneng Marcelo played the piano while Mr. Ernil Tuason sang a Christmas song. He, together with other employees sang also the bests of Cascades. There was a modern dance performed by the MAPEH department together with some employees who were dance enthusiasts ( which include Mrs. Issa Amalia, the only rose among the thorns ) .The big revelation was none other Fr. Blaise who gave his best in exposing his hidden talent.

Simple but delicious foods were served. There was a group game, “Decorating a Christmas Tree” (using a human figure), participated by all the three departments. Grade School Department won this game proving how creative Grade School teachers were!

To my co-employees who were with me in the past years and would still stay behind me in the years to come (through thick and thin), sharing anything under the sun, consoling and giving me pieces of advice in my moments of disasters(?)-THANK YOU. To my “motivators” and those who act as the “stimulants” in my sometime humdrum life, please keep pushing me on. For those whom I wasn’t able to give my time when my presence was mostly needed, I’m sorry. ( Forgiveness warms the hearts).

A BIG SCHOOL CALLED…LIFE (5)

What a Beautiful Day!

Yes, it was the day after Christmas. I thought it was just a day of relaxing because of the past few days being so busy with different activities. But, it’s more than what I was thinking about.

My daughter Fiona, son Jeric and I spent the day with lot of “asaran” which always ended up with words, “Ikaw na naman ang bida.” We also talked about what it would be this coming year- Jeric promised that he would already be working before my birthday. BUT, jokingly he said, “Mom, I will not talk to you any more”. When I asked him why, “It’s because… “Oh, It’s ok. I could read it in your eyes.” But I reminded him, “Don’t forget to leave the money on the table.” Then we all laughed. Seriously, I told both them that if ever they become successful, remain to be humble. Love their jobs, share their blessings and don’t forget to ask HIS guidance.

Late at night, Jeric asked me if I want to see the movie he was streaming in our PC.It was not shown yet in the big screen according to him. The title of the movie was “Invictus” I told Jeric that it was a very nice poem written by William Ernest Henley.

The movie was about the life of President Nelson Mandela,( portrayed by Morgan Freeman) first black president of South Africa. Looking back before he became president of Africa, he was accused of being anti-apartheid, activist, saboteur, and other crimes. He was imprisoned from 1963-1990 at Robben Island Prison, which later after his imprisonment became a tourist attraction.

At the age of 75, he became the oldest elected President.One big problem of his country was racial segregation. He believed that in his own way, he could be an instrument to spread peace, reunite his racially divided country by giving full support in the team, the Springbok ( which compromised completely with the white players ) in its bid to win the World Cup 2005.Being an anti- apartheid before, for this time he wants to show by example. FORGIVENESS which could bring PEACE and HARMONY to his country.
