As part of our Faculty Development, this year, Cainta Catholic College was lucky to have with us Mr. Chinkee Tan, a young entrepreneur, a good motivational speaker on topics about financial management, leadership, building self-confidence,etc. He was before a showbiz personality,(appeared in a movie I Love You 3 times a Day) and was once a member of Randy Santiago’s Hawi Boys. At the age of 18,he left the industry and concentrated in business particularly in networking. He became a millionaire before reaching the age of 35. Some of his famous books are “Six Steps to Financial Freedom” and “Till Debt Do Us Part.”
Mr. Tan really spoke from the heart. There were a lot of insights gained from the seminar. He said that the main principle in financial management is the correct MIND SET- Save! Save! Save! It’s not important how much money one makes but how much money he saves . Spend money wisely. It comes too quick and there is always a
tendency to spend it fast. Even if a person’s salary becomes higher, he should not change his lifestyle. The same he spent in the previous still fit in his new way of life. Let money works for a person and not a person works for money.
For those singles, they should not get married if they are still needed by their families as breadwinners. They should wait for the right time that they are free from financial obligations in the family. Before entering to marriage, they should have savings. They should be prepared to the married life they’re going to embark and not on the wedding itself. Wedding is but just a one day occasion in one’s life while marriage is a life- long commitment. They should bear in mind that the foundation of marriage is mutual TRUST. Then he reminded the singles and even the married ones- “Spouse’s money is yours and vice versa.”
One of the highlights of the seminar was when he dealt about getting out of debt. Everybody was so interested while he discussed it briefly.Right now, maybe the attendees were already applying the principles he shared which:1. Decide to get out. 2.Empty your savings account/ liquidate some assets and pay your debts. 3. Be faithful in paying your debts even in small amounts. 4. Finally, reverse the process.
He left three very meaningful messages: LEARNING FROM OTHERS’ EXPERIENCE IS THE BEST TEACHER, FRUGALITY IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS and LOVE YOUR PROFESSION AND BE EXCELLENT ON IT!

I had debt tribulations for a lot of years. It was a terrible feeling to experience that constant pressure day in and day out. People that are stressed really ought to button down and shed all extra spending to get out of their debt troubles. It is worth it to feel much better.
